Project brief & summary
This project formed part of a complete knock-down and rebuild, offering the rare opportunity to design the kitchen entirely around lifestyle rather than constraint. The client’s vision was clear: a dramatic, open-plan social space that would anchor the rear of the home and blur the boundaries between cooking, dining and relaxing.
Unlike a chef-focused brief, the emphasis here was on atmosphere and flow. The kitchen was to act as a refined backdrop to family life and entertaining, seamlessly connected to a generous dining zone and a comfortable seating area centred around a feature television wall.
A defining architectural feature of the design is an expansive roof lantern stretching almost the full width of the rear elevation. This floods the interior with natural light, enhancing ceiling height and creating a striking sense of scale.
The objective was to deliver a space that feels expansive yet intimate, modern, light-filled and purposefully designed for gathering, hosting and everyday living.
