This project involved a significant structural transformation, with the entire rear of the property opened up to create a large, light-filled living space. The intention was to replace a series of smaller rooms with one expansive open-plan environment that could comfortably accommodate cooking, dining and relaxing.

Large bi-fold doors were introduced across the rear elevation, allowing natural light to flood the interior while creating a seamless connection between the home and garden. The client’s vision was for a bright and welcoming social space where family and guests could gather throughout the day.

A generous island and peninsula with seating were central to the brief, ensuring the kitchen could support both everyday use and informal entertaining. The design also needed to incorporate a dedicated dining area and relaxed living zone without the kitchen overwhelming the overall space.

A light, uplifting colour palette was requested to enhance the sense of openness, along with a display dresser to introduce character and provide a place for decorative pieces and everyday essentials.

Description

The design centres around a refined, light-filled aesthetic that complements the newly opened rear of the property. Painted in-frame cabinetry was selected to introduce classic craftsmanship and structure, while a soft, bright colour palette enhances the sense of space created by the large bi-fold doors. Polished chrome traditional handles add a subtle touch of elegance, paired with detailed cabinetry skirting to reinforce the furniture-like quality of the joinery.

White marble-effect quartz worktops were chosen for their timeless character and durability. The surfaces feature an elegant New York profile edge detail, introducing a refined architectural finish to both the island and peninsula. LED lighting was carefully channelled into the underside of the quartz worktops, casting a soft glow that accentuates the cabinetry below and adds depth to the overall composition.

A sunken glazed dresser was incorporated within the design to create a dedicated display feature. Set seamlessly within the cabinetry, it provides a space to showcase glassware and decorative pieces while adding an additional layer of visual interest to the kitchen.
