Project brief & summary
This project involved removing internal walls to combine two separate rooms into a single, open space, allowing the layout to fully embrace the property’s position overlooking the River Crouch. The intention was to create a kitchen environment that felt open, social and visually connected to the landscape beyond.
Large panoramic sliding doors were introduced, opening onto a balcony and framing uninterrupted views across the river. The client was keen to incorporate an industrial influence within the design, with a brick-built feature wall adding texture and architectural character to the space.
The brief also reflected a broader shift in how modern homes are used. While the lounge still plays an important role, kitchens have increasingly become the place where people naturally gather, spending time cooking, talking and socialising together. The aim was therefore to design a kitchen that comfortably supports this lifestyle, offering a welcoming and sociable environment without losing efficiency or practicality.
The result is a space that feels open, characterful and perfectly positioned to enjoy its surroundings.
